Julia’s House Volunteers

Volunteering seems to be a mainstay of life in Dorset. So many people are incredibly busy but still miraculously find time to help local charities, to share their skills and experience and to generally support people in need.

That’s why, we were delighted when local children’s charity Julia’s House told us they wanted to say thank you to their volunteers as part of National Volunteers Week by holding a vintage tea for the volunteers at their hospice at Corfe Mullen.

Volunteers WeekVolunteers Week takes place from 1st June – 7th June but because of the Jubilee Celebrations lots of organisations including Julia’s House are extending their volunteer thank-you’s until the 14th.  It is an annual campaign which celebrates the fantastic contribution that millions of volunteers make in all organisations across the UK.

Julia’s House is Dorset’s only hospice dedicated to children with life-limiting conditions. The majority of the children cared for are unlikely to live beyond the age of 18. With more than 100 volunteers supporting the charity – taking on work from fundraising to van driving; working in the Julia’s House shops, providing admin work and giving support at the hospice itself – there’s a huge range and potential for volunteering activity that is vital to the charity.

The vintage tea is an opportunity for employees from Julia’s House to say thank you – serving tea and scones to volunteers and showing them the facilities and work that takes place at the Corfe Mullen hospice.

If you are thinking about volunteering in Dorset then take a look at the volunteer vacancies at Julia’s House  HERE – or get in touch with the Volunteer Co-ordinator June Maidment,  01202 607400 june.maidment@juliashouse.org for more information.

Wallace & Gromit’s Great British Tea Party

Wallace & Gromit are calling on people across the UK by enjoying a cup of tea and a slice of cake at The Great British Tea Party from the 1st – 10th December to raise thousands of pounds for charity helping sick children in hospitals and hospices.

Wallace & Gromit's Tea PartyIn the UK we get through a staggering 16.5 million cups of tea a day, that’s an average of three cups of tea each every day. We drink quite a lot of tea at Vintage Dorset – so we’re having our own tea party with friends and family in a pre-Christmas teatime treat! If you want to host a Wallace & Gromit tea party of your own – then we’re happy to offer you FREE BUNTING and free publicity on our Vintage Dorset calendar. Just contact us here to arrange.

Nick Park, creator of Wallace & Gromit and trustee of the Wallace & Gromit Children’s Foundation, says: “A quintessentially British tea party is just my cup of tea and a great way to help sick and terminally ill children in the UK.”
