You may remember we featured Visions in our blog earlier this year when we caught sight of their unique black and white and Upside Down cakes…

We’re going to have a tiny display of our vintage crockery hire and party planning information at Visions’ Open Studio in the “Retro Cake Kitchen” … but I’m particularly excited about Denise’s workshops and ideas – I can’t wait to see what Visions have in store for us!

Business Mums Exhibition

Display of vintage dorset crockery Vintage Dorset headed over to the Village Hotel in Bournemouth last night for a Business Mums Exhibition and to show off our vintage china hire and parties. This business networking event was co-ordinated by Networking Mummies Dorset working with Bournemouth Chamber of Commerce and Mothercare to launch the Business Mum’s Journal.

Although it wasn’t a vintage-themed night, I was really interested in finding out more about whether its just my imagination or has there really has been resurgence of “old fashioned” and traditional toys.

So, as well as the very positive response we got to our Vintage Crockery Hire and Mad Hatter Tea Parties, (especially the yummy chocolate hearts and gorgeous teacups with roses), we were really heartened by the numbers of businesses offering traditional wooden toys, old-fashioned crafts, cake-making and creative skills. This was matched by an abundance of parents who are clear in their intent that their children will grow up with curiosity and wonder at the world – equipped with an enthusiasm for “imagination” without being wholly tied to plastic goods or electronic games.  Authenticity abounded!

My particular favourites included:

CharlieMoos – beautiful home-sewn party bags created in gorgeous fabrics by Joanne Dewbury, Dorset Business Mum of the Year (read more about her in this month’s Prima magazine)

Lulubelles cup cakes- just gorgeous

Justine and Nicki from Little Munchkins for good old fashioned jelly n ice-cream party food and also teaching little ones how to cook

Cake Heaven – more wonderful themed-cakes and a really good old fashioned Dorset Apple Cake – mmm!

Ollie’s Closet Toys include loads of wooden toys, musical instruments and traditional games – we love these!

Networking Mummies seems a really great way for business mums in the Dorset Bournemouth and Poole areas to get to know each other, collaborate, grow their businesses and keep a good work life balance.I wonder if this was what our campaigning grandmothers had in mind all along!
