Mangerton Mill

If you’re looking for somewhere to get a big shot of that shabby vintage feeling then Mangerton Mill just outside Bridport is an ideal place to go (directions and map). Its a 17th Century working water mill combined with a Museum of Rural Bygones and is situated on the River Manger. There’s a walk that takes you alongside the river and Trout fishing is also available.

The tea room is rather good and you can get some very pleasant light lunches and cream teas (although it can be a bit of a wait if they’re very busy – its genuine food when it comes!)

Steve and I went in May and sat outside for our cream tea. Then, whilst I went hunting through the local crafts barns, Steve wandered back around the museum to take photos of the mill itself and some of the odd artifacts and spidery bits and bobs.

Its all a bit chaotically laid out but that is part of its charm – not commercialised at all!
