Veterans and Armed Forces Day
Dorchester will show its support for past and present servicemen and women at the Veterans and Armed Forces Day on Saturday 2nd July.
The event includes units of armed forces, service veterans, cadets, Ex-Ghurkas, police, ambulance and fire services, World War Two vehicles and the Wessex Military Band who will parade through the town concluding celebrations with music and entertainment in the Borough Gardens.
There are stalls and displays from the forces and if the weather is fine it seems a great vintage event for a traditional picnic.
Committee chairman George Osborne, from the Royal Naval Association, said: “We are hoping the town will come and support us, last year it was very successful and we hope it will be the same.”
The event is supported by Dorchester Town Council and the Dorchester branch of the Royal British Legion.
Programme
Parade leaves North Square at 1.25pm
March down South Street, across Trinity Street and along Bowling Alley Walk
Arrive Borough Gardens
Civic service in the Borough Gardens at 2pm, followed by musical entertainment from the Wessex Military Band and Dorchester Big Band.
A beer tent and café are also available with veterans also on hand to answer questions from members of the public.
Bill Harper, secretary of the Dorchester branch of the Royal British Legion, said:
“It’s an important day for all service and ex-service personnel as well as the reserve forces and cadet forces”
